MEDICAL ASSISTANT

WHAT TO EXPECT:

The Medical Assistant's responsibility is to take your vital signs, do a pre-interview of your medical condition, and to update your medication list.  They will also put you in the room where you will meet with your care team.  Don't underestimate the potential of this part of your visit in terms of how it can make your visit great versus unsatisfactory.

YOUR ROLE:  

If they use a machine to take your blood pressure, don't tolerate pressure that causes pain or difficulty breathing.  Insist that the MA stop the test.  Request a manual BP test instead.
